Starting Pre-School

From the first day at Krakatoa Pre-School your child will feel welcomed and at home. We believe in providing an environment that nurtures the well-being of each child, where every child is special, valued and respected for who they are, rather than what they can or cannot do.

Krakatoa welcomes children between the ages of 2 ½ and 5. Your child is eligible to begin Krakatoa as soon as they are 2 ½. We are open weekday mornings from 9am to 12 noon, at a cost of £15, with an optional lunch club from 12 – 1pm, for a further £5. We are also open full days on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until 3pm, at a cost of £30 for the day.  This option is only for 3 year old plus. Government funding is available for children from the term after their 3rd birthday, for 15 hours per week. Since September 2017, the Government have introduced an additional 15 hours per week and can now claim a maximum of 30 hours per week. Krakatoa pre-school is open for 26 hours. To see if you qualify apply to www.childcarechoices.gov.uk Some 2 and a half year olds also qualify for funding.

We encourage parents to visit the pre-school with their children during the weeks before an admission is planned, in order to meet the staff and other children. Where appropriate, parents may separate from their child for brief periods at first, gradually building up to longer absences.

Learning takes place both within the pre-school building and outside in the adjoining fields. During the morning sessions children often go on short excursions so that they can explore and experience nature, the seasons and the weather. Within the enclosed outdoor playground there is plenty of space for them to enjoy the trikes and ride on toys, as well as messy play and climbing equipment.
